Two larger files you may wish to see..

July 9, 2020

Hello Mejchars,

Many of you may not be aware that I had generated several years ago a blog about the Mejchars.  This is a bit different than the Facebook private Group.  It was a means of providing a single point reference for some larger files of information.  The early information was historical.  I had not updated this blog site with new information since our 2016 picnic.

Item 1.
But I am now adding a feature video that had been made on Dick Mejchar's conservation contributions.  The video is well done.

Check it out?

You can see the video by clicking on this:

Item 2.
Beverly rediscovered the wonderful Mejchar Booklet that had been made by Kitty Alt (Thank you again!).  It is amazing just how much information Kitty was able to assemble into this booklet.  I was able to create a pdf of the booklet and it can be seen here:

Mejchar Family Booklet 2016

I have now taken Kitty Alt's fine work and created a linked file of the entire booklet.  For those of you have not seen the detail work that went into this effort, please open the following link to see the document.

Mejchar 2016 Picnic

The Mejchar Family Picnic of 2016 is a success!

Thank you to all who contributed and worked so hard to make this a most enjoyable day.  The weather was superb, the company was grand and the food was delicious.  Here are a few shots from the day.

The selection of roast pig and chicken made the day a tasty feast.  Cousins all brought a variety of dishes and drinks so that no one went hungry.

Butcher Block Meats oversaw the roasting of the pig and a dozen chickens.  From 6:30 am until 1:30 pm, the smell of wonderful roasting pig and chicken was floating throughout the park grounds.
Note the pigs head.  I know of a few who savored the taste of pg ears - a learned delicacy...
So much food for all to enjoy.

Highlighting the day was the distribution of a custom design and fabricated Mejchar Family booklet, courtesy of Kitty Alt. Sixty-two pages of  pictures and memories were assembled with care and love.
A short history of Frank and Anna's life in Pocinovice was followed by some great pictures of the children (and their spouses).  A visit with Auntie Helen reminisced the Mejchar home life.  Old recipes of Ma Mejchar included Potato and Yeast Dumplings.   Kitty included recipes donated from many of the children's families.  A visit with Uncle Dickie spoke of Grandpas work, both at Rosenthal Corn Huskers and in the basement workshop.  And who could forget Dickies hunt for rabbits and pheasant near the tracks.  The book captured the essence of the Mejchar family in personal memories, pictures and stories.
A five panel display of the genealogy of the Mejchar family was assembled by the Thompson (Beverly Mejchar) clan.  The posters charted out the eleven children and their respective offspring.  Many updates and edits were added, and new pictures were taken to be included in the Ancestry family tree.

And last but not least was the famous penny toss!  Auntie Helen mastered the penny toss to all the children.  Inflation required many coins above the normal penny, and all the children enjoyed the chance to increase their allowance!

Can't wait until the next Mejchar Picnic!

Viewing Ancestry Family Tree

Are you interested in seeing the expanded Family Tree?

Here's what you need to do...
1. Email Ron Thompson at rt1055@comcast.net
2. Ron will invite you to see the Thompson Family Tree - 10 (the tree covers both the MEJCHAR and the THOMPSON families).
3. You will then receive an email invitation from Ancestry.com.  The invitation will allow you to view the tree without actually joining (paying the annual fee).  In order to edit the tree, you would need to join.
4. The Ancestry tree is private, and viewing is limited to only those who are individually invited.
5.  If you run into problems, contact me directly at rt1055@comcast.net.

I have been working on the tree for the last 10 years and now have over 5,000 relatives in the tree.  The MEJCHAR side of the family extends back many generations.  The various splits on the present day family, as a result of marriages, can also show some very interesting family histories.

My goal is to have an exhaustive picture of the extended family that is accurate and tested.  Only with your help can this occur.

Thanks for the help!

Ron

The Boys and Girls

The brothers and sisters that comprise the Frank Mejchar family are individually diverse, yet maintain the essence that belonged to the Mejchar ancestors.  The children were raised in a single family home in West Allis Wisconsin.  Frank, Anna and Rose immigrating in 1910 from the small village of Pocinovice, Czech Republic.  First, a little history of their origins.

History
Pocinovice, Domazlice District, Plzensky region, Czech Republic

Pocinovice is the largest of the eleven former Chod villages and the easternmost village.  It is at the foot of Jezvineckého forest, on the edge of a Domažlice Klatovy district. The region of Chodsko, as we know nowadays, is only one part of the original settlement of the western boundary. In the southern part of the area there were 11 settlements: Drazenov, Chodov, Klicov, Klenci pod Cerchovem, Chodska Lhota, Mrakov, Pocinovice, Postrekov, Straz, Tlumacov, Ujezd.

The men of the region were supposed to guard the boundary. That´s why the Bohemian kings awarded them with various privileges which brought them an extraordinary rank in a feudal system. The most important right was their personal liberty, they were just royal serfs. Inhabitants of Domazlice obtained 24 privileges in the years 1325-1612 confirming their rights, which were in force until the end of the 17th century. This employment , connected with the danger of an invasion, required fighting power, bravery and determination. They showed these skills during their long history. The villages were rather small. Each had about 50 inhabitants and during the 16th, 17th centuries the region of Domazlice had a population of 320. Villages were built either on slopes or on feet of hills in order to have been hidden from enemies.

The villages were made up of single yards which were around a large village green with only two drives, which could be easily blocked and defended. Barns and gardens in the yards were used for defense too. Every attack on this village was often an insurmountable problem for the enemies.  In spite of later reconstructions, nearly all villages in the area of Chodsko have preserved this character.

The name of the municipality, Pocinovice was first mentioned in the 14th century. When Pocinovice was under the influence of German rule, the name was Putzenried. The first written mention is from March 16, 1325.  The people of the villages enjoyed all the freedoms and privileges that Chods received from the Czech kings, including its own seal, flag, government and common privileges.  Interestingly, it is believed that the Pocinovice farmers always belonged to the radical of the Chod community.

The municipality of Pocinovice covers an area of 24.6 square kilometres (9.5 sq mi), and has a population of 534 (as at 28 August 2006).
